Week 3 Part A: Aesthetics, Design, and Branding

Aesthetics, Design and Branding all play an important role in good website design, and websites that are efficient user friendly will generally generate more sales but there is a lot more to it.

The first website I looked at for this weeks assignment was https://sandiego.craigslist.org/. I remember searching for things on craigslist when I was younger and using the website then thinking it was so archaic and not very user friendly. Flash forward 10 plus years later and it's literally still the same site. It's very old school in it's design, no pictures, or updates, the information on the landing page seems a bit overwhelming and navigation wise, where do you start?

The second website that I took a look at was https://www.headhunterhairstyling.com/ this website was user friendly and easy to navigate. However I feel like it did not have enough content, they did a great job at listing the services they offer but they didn't have any pictures to show for it. The concept could use more development.

The third website I took a look at was https://www.apple.com/. This website, clearly has a well developed concept, it's user-friendly and it's sleek, modern design makes sense for the brand. Apple does a great job at displaying it's content and products in a certain hierarchy to push out certain products and promotions to it's consumer and apple enthusiasts. I also believe the branding is uniform from website to in store.

The last website I took a look at was https://www.toyota.com/. This website is easy to navigate, user friendly, it's content is relevant to the consumer. The website has definitely been developed with the consumer in mind. The website's capabilities make it easy enough to check all the specs and details about any Toyota vehicle on the market, this provides a good customer experience.

Overall looking through the websites was a fun exercise, it really goes to show the bid difference a well developed website makes. Obviously the two websites that had a great aesthetic, design and branding were those of large companies such as Apple and Toyota. These companies have invested a lot of time and money in the development of there company sites and it shows. Even though these are corporations, it does make a clear point in the importance of website development and a business to invest in a good website is crucial to doing business today.

  1. Hey Deanna! Well done with your response. I liked how you mentioned Craigslist as an outdated site. I completely agree as well. You would expect some changes here and there as there are thousands of sites who offer the best customer experience. However, it's always good to look at examples of what NOT to do in order to learn. I also agree with how you mentioned time and investment is what has helped big companies such as Toyota and Apple to keep a top notch site. Great work with your response!
